The Microsoft FrontPage Web development program was a WYSIWYG HTML editor and website administration tool that was part of the Microsoft Office suite from 1997 to 2003. It was designed to hide the details of HTML coding from its users, allowing them to create and manage Web sites without having to know any HTML. FrontPage was succeeded by two new programs: Microsoft SharePoint Designer and Microsoft Expression Web.

The court disagreed, saying that Backpage performed “traditional publisher functions” with regard to the ad and was shielded by Section 230.
