In a world that is more interconnected than ever before, global affairs explores issues that transcend national boundaries. These include sustainability, international policy, global health, peace-building and international development. Our interdisciplinary major prepares you to tackle these pressing problems with confidence and curiosity, giving you the skills to take action and make an impact.
As a global affairs major, you’ll be exposed to multiple disciplines, including political science, history, economics, ethics and more. You’ll develop a deep understanding of these complex issues, with the ability to connect and communicate across disciplines and cultures. The program also challenges you to consider those most affected by conflict, poverty, inequality and climate change and how their root causes can be addressed.
The field of global affairs examines how countries, regions and communities interact with one another through trade, diplomacy, foreign policy, the economy and other channels. The degree can lead to a variety of career paths, from government and nonprofits to international organizations and business.
Students who complete the major are prepared to work at all levels of government and the private sector, as well as nongovernmental organizations, think tanks and universities. They’re ready to be leaders in a diverse, global society with the knowledge, skills and experience needed to address critical challenges.
Prospective majors should enroll in introductory economics, history and political science courses as early as possible. They should also plan to fulfill the L4 language requirement by the fall of their sophomore year.
