The world is more interconnected than ever before, but persistent tensions and conflicts still emerge in societies. To address these challenges, students like you need a broad understanding of international issues and their connections to global systems. With our program, you’ll develop the knowledge to tackle complex problems across disciplines. You’ll build a deep understanding of a region and its peoples, become fluent in the language of your choice, and gain valuable real-world experience through a global internship or study abroad.
Our graduate program will prepare you for an impactful career across public, private, and nonprofit global sectors. You’ll be able to explore issues that are vitally important to human flourishing—from sustainability and international policy to global justice and resource security.
As part of the degree, you’ll complete two 3-credit Diplomados (concentrations) in your thematic and geographic areas of interest. You’ll also take a senior essay course GLBL 4500 that requires you to secure an academic advisor and secondary reader.
The graduate program is designed to be completed in two years of full-time study, with the first year consisting of a core curriculum. During the fall and spring of your sophomore year, you’ll be encouraged to take introductory economics, political science and history courses that are approved for major requirements. You’ll also be urged to start working toward the L4 language requirement early.
All Global Affairs graduates are required to have a cumulative grade point ratio of 3.00 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and must have at least 30 credits (10 courses) in the major. These must include a combination of core courses and those from sister disciplines, as approved, such as history, economics, business or public administration.
